Spotlight – Joe Burton

joe bFrom Porter, Texas, Joe Burton is a sophomore who has a list of accomplishments. Starting his list from high school, he averaged 22.5 points and 7.8 rebounds as a senior. Then he helped lead his team to a finishing winning record of 16-0. In the Houston area, a player is awarded a Guy V. Lewis Award which he was a finalist for. This led him to be named the Most Valuable Played of District 13- 5A. The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches noticed his work and named Burton to be an All-State Class 5A player.

Burton’s first season at Oklahoma State University was probably not what Coach Ford expected. In the nine games he played in he only could average 1.7 points and 0.6 rebounds a game. However, he did finally break out against Northwestern Oklahoma scoring six points and retreiving three rebounds in 15 minutes. Despite the first season, this season so far has been going in his favor. Burton has been averaging more time on the court and an average 7.6 points per game. The season is still so fresh, but his improvements are being noted.

With how Burton played in high school to the first season at OSU, it seems he was just a tad intimated with the transition. So far, the second season is showing a turn around for Burton, but only time will tell how this player takes on the seasons to come.
